Friendship Star Blocks For Comfort Quilts
These instructions will give two blocks.
The blocks will have the lights and darks
in reversed positions. When making
blocks for these Care and Comfort quilts,
please make a pair as shown.
Cutting Instructions:
Neutral light fabric: cut 5 @ 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches
cut 4 @ 3 7/8 x 3 7/8 inches
Dark Fabric: cut 5 @ 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches
cut 4 @ 3 7/8 x 3 7/8 inches
Sewing Instructions:
Draw a diagonal line through the centre of the four 3
7/8 inch light neutral squares.
Pair these up with the four dark 3 7/8 inch squares,
right sides together. Sew a 1/4 inch seam on either side
of the drawn line. Cut these apart on the drawn line.
Press towards the dark triangle and trim off the dog ear
little triangle bits. You will end up with eight triangles
squares.They should measure 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches
square.
Take your triangle squares and arrange them
with the 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch squares as
shown in the photo, paying attention to the
position and direction of the triangle squares
Sew these together into rows.
Press away from the pieced triangle squares,
as shown.
Sew these rows together and press the seams
towards the centre of the block.
Please press your blocks as shown here. This will
make sure that where the blocks are all brought
together for assembly, the seams will all nest nicely
together.
When fi nished, as shown at the beginning of these
instructions, your blocks should measure 9 1/2 inches
square.
