Dear San Diego County Democratic Party,
On behalf of the E-Board of the Pt Loma & OB Dems I would like to request the Party
reconsider its proposed timeline for Friendly Incumbent Endorsement (FIE)
considerations.
The Central Committee should schedule to allow time for the regional caucuses to hear
from our club and others, before making their endorsements.
We don’t yet know if there will be any strong challengers, but we want to encourage all
Democratic voices to be heard.
The endorsement process allows us to engage our members and generates excitement
for walking, advocating and donating — members become more active and involved
with the club and the Party. Endorsements are one of the levers we have to encourage
offi cials to attend meetings to explain their positions, especially on contentious policy
issues before the City.
Our club members are interested to hear:
•
Joe discuss proposed changes to the Planning Boards
•
Stephen discuss unhoused citizens and cycle paths
•
Raul discuss last minute revisions to the Surveillance Ordinance
•
Sean discuss Tenants Protection Ordinance, ADU maximization and Sustainable
Development Areas
•
from all candidates for San Diego City Attorney and their stance on the PrOTECT
Ordinance
Further, following the revelations in a recent Union-Tribune article —
Political fi rm
owned by Whitburn adviser still doing business while suspended by state
— we would
like to understand how the Party vets vendors and sub-vendors before more member
communications are sent out for endorsed candidates.
We’re not convinced that endorsing early is best for our local democracy.
Thank you for all of the work you do.
