Wild Jimbo’s FAQ
How long have you been playing?
I started playing in 1977. I started with mandolin, guitar and then banjo. All within about 6
months of each other.
How did you learn?
I learned the old fashioned way of slowing down records and listening. My dad had a good
Flatt & Scruggs collection, and he also bought be the demo recording that went with the Earl
Scruggs book (I didn’t have the book though).
Where do you live?
I live in North Georgia. The closest big city to me is Chattanooga, Tennessee
How many banjos do you have?
I have ten, or maybe eleven.
Do you play any other instruments?
Yes; I play guitar, mandolin, bass, ukulele, and can make noise on a lot of different instruments.
Is it easy to learn?
I think so. If you apply yourself and practice you can become profi cient at it.
Is it easier to learn if I play guitar?
Maybe. Then again, maybe not. There are things that will be the same, but take some time to
learn some banjo techniques so you don’t wind up sounding like a guitarist that owns a banjo.
Do you have recordings?
Check out the Hamilton County Ramblers on Spotify or iTunes (or wherever you listen to
music).
Do you teach?
I don’t offer one on one lessons, but check out my YouTube channel at
www.youtube.com/

where I have a good beginner series and a lot of other videos to help you learn.
What is your favorite song?
I don’t have one. I really do enjoy playing what I play. There are songs, however, I don’t enjoy
based on various reasons, but it’s never about the music.
