Classwork
•
Work assigned in class is to be done in class. That means work assigned in class is to be
done in the classroom between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on days when school
is in session except on Thursdays when classwork is to be done in the classroom between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. Students are not required to do classwork during
recess, lunch, P.E., art class with Mrs. Ekedal, science class with Mrs. Banks, music class
with Mrs. Valeska, during assemblies, special events, fi eld trips, parties, emergency drills,
or any other activity that takes the student out of the classroom or is a planned activity
within the classroom that takes priority over work to be done in the classroom.
•
Students will not be required to do work assigned in class on days that they are absent.
They will, however, be required to take tests on material covered in class regardless of
their presence or absence during the test or
on school days
leading up to the test.
•
Students may do class work outside of school hours if they did the best they could in
school to fi nish the work but did not fi nish. This class work can be completed before 8:00
a.m. or after 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or before 8:00
a.m. or after 12:25 p.m. on Thursdays, or anytime on weekends or holidays. Classwork that
is completed outside of school hours can be completed in any location including but not
limited to the classroom, Kids Corner, Prime Time, home, etc. The classwork completed
outside of school hours will be graded as homework, and will be accepted as completion of
classwork.
•
Students may not complete classwork outside of school hours if they were not doing their
best to get the work done in class. For example, if a student is talking with their friends,
playing a video game on their device, and/or being distracted by something, they are not
doing their best to complete their classwork. In this case, the student won’t be given
permission to fi nish their classwork at home. On the next school day they must
demonstrate that they are doing their best and staying on task to complete their work in
school before they can take the classwork home to complete it.
•
If a student falls two or more days behind in their classwork, I will: have them sit near me,
direct them in what type of classwork to do, regulate when they can get up from their
seat, provide assistance in completing their work, and monitor their progress. The
student will remain in that assigned seat near me until they are caught up with their
classwork.
•
Classwork can be turned in late with no academic penalty. It will be noted that the work
was turned in late, but will not be graded down because it was late.
