The Adventures of Teemto
December 2019
Part 7: Freedom
I can't stop thinking about the moment at the pod race with Anakin. I had a
chance to win and I threw it away. Anakin has something, I don't know what it is; I could
feel it. None of that matters now, it's over. Right now, I'm on my way to Pablo's house
to meet his lawyer, something about a will. He’s probably just going to hand me his bar
tab or a pack of cigarettes.
I forgot how uncomfortable the damn seats are in my speeder. Maybe it's just
my back, I don't know, but they're killing me. I guess it doesn't matter because I’m
pulling up at Pablo's house right now. It feels weird being here with him being dead
and everything.
I walk up to the door, and as I reach for it, I hear some rustling, then it opens.
There's a man standing there smiling, he shakes my hand and lets me in. We sit down
and he starts talking.
"So you’re Teemto? "
"The one and only," I respond.
"Good, so I assume you're here about the will," he says.
I nod, unsure of what else to say.
"Alright, then let's see what he's left you," he says, reaching into his bag and
pulling out a flimsy crumpled up piece of paper.
“It seems like he left you his favourite briefcase," he said.
Now that truly shocked me. A briefcase? Why would he leave me a briefcase?
All I said was:
"Well, I guess it’s better than nothing."
I pick it up and go on my way. As I pull up to my house, I notice the door is
kicked in. This means Jabba is looking for me, looking for the credits. The only issue is,
I don't have the credits. I sprint inside, it’s ransacked, things are everywhere. In the
1
middle of everything I notice something, a note amongst the chaos. I pick it up and
look at it. Written in black ink it says:
"10:00 am, bring 10,000 credits or you are dead."
I collapse onto my couch. Maybe death is a good thing; perhaps death is better than
living on this hell hole of a planet for another day. I know that's a wrong way of
thinking, but come on. I've lost everything, my best friend, my one true love,
everybody is gone.
As I think about what to do next I notice the briefcase. I had completely
forgotten about it, as I look at it I notice something shining from the inside. I pick it up
and open it, inside I see thousands of credit chips each worth hundreds of credits. I
collapse to the ground, I must be dreaming. I hold my entire future in my hands, what it
takes to have everything I’ve ever dreamed of. This is way more than enough to get me
out of the gang. I can fi nally be free.
The next morning I head to Jabbas. It’s around 9:30 when I arrive. As I pull up I
see three huge circular buildings. As I approach the huge metal doors I’m greeted by a
little voice:
“good to see you. If I’m being honest, I didn’t expect to see you at all.”
“Ya well I’m here and I have the money, ” I said in response.
“Good, come in.”
As the little voice says that, the doors open and I step inside. I walk up a huge
flight of stairs. There he is, Jabba along with the rest of the swoop gang. I start to walk
towards him at that moment I feel something up against my head, I can tell it a blaster.
As I start to back up he says:
“where’s the money.”
“In here,” I say, as I slowly put down the briefcase.
Jabba gestures for one of his goons to go grab it, then he says:
“Ok you can now let him go.”
As I start to walk away I hear blaster fi re I start to speed up until I’m at a full
sprint. I should have realized he wouldn’t just let me go nothing can be that easy. I
sprint down the stairs and through the huge metal doors. I see my speeder and run
over to it. As I get in I think about all the things that have happened: Pablo
’
s death, the
1
pod race, the crash, everything. It’s all over now, I start the engine and head off to fi nd
my one true love.
