USABILITY TEST SCRIPT: INKING (USERS)
Introduction
Hi and thanks again for taking the time to participate in this session. My name is Yina, and
I’ll be walking you through this session today.
Before we start, I’d like to explain to you what we are doing today so you know what to
expect. I am asking you to try an app prototype to see if it works as intended. The session
should only take about 20 minutes. I’ll also give you some context as to what we are
testing, and why.
Today, I am asking you to try out a new app called INKING and do a few activities using
the app. I’d like to learn what works well and what doesn’t with real users like you. One
thing I want to emphasise is that I am testing the app, not you. There’s nothing you can
do that can be wrong. I simply want to hear your candid opinions.
I’ll start by asking you some general questions about the app, then move on to doing
some specifi c tasks using the app. As you use the app, please try to think out loud as
much as possible what you are thinking and feeling as you explore the app. For example,
you might let us know when something catches your eyes during a work flow for a task,
and you are curious to tap on it to see where it takes you, despite abandoning the work
flow.
If you have any questions along the way, just ask me. If you are confused or not sure what
to do next at any point, simple let me know so I can get you back on track. Lastly, if you
need a break at any point or want to end the session early, just speak up.
With your permission, I am going to record what happens on your screen and our
conversation. The recording will only be used for the design of this app, and won’t be
seen by anyone else other than the design team.
If you would, I am going to ask you to sign a simple permission form for me. To begin the
session, I also need you to sign this consent form to confi rm that you are participating in
the study voluntarily.
Do you have any questions so far?
Ok, we’ll start recording and start the session then.
Personal demographic questions
How many tattoos do you currently have?
Background questions
Before we take a look at INKING, we have a few short questions we’d like to ask you to
help us get a better understanding of how you might use INKING:
Do you plan to get a tattoo in the next year?
When you want a tattoo, how do you come up with a design or idea?
Where do you fi nd a tattoo artist that you like currently?
Do you use any applications or websites for searching tattoo designs and artists currently?
Is there something that you really like or dislike? Why?
Open-ended questions
Thank you for answering those questions. Now I’d like to show you the INKING app and
get your fi rst impression of it.
Spend some time looking at this screen. Without clicking anything tell us your fi rst
impressions, what strikes you about it, what you can do here, and what it’s for. Remember
to think out loud as much as possible. You can scroll if you want, but don’t click on
anything yet please.
Now that you’ve taken a look at INKING, can you tell us what you think the purpose of
the app is?
Thank you, now i’ll ask you to try to try some specifi c tasks using the app.
Tasks
Again, as much as you can, please think out loud as you proceed through these tasks. I’ll
then ask you one question after each task.
Scenario 1: You have an idea for a tattoo and would like to draw the draft yourself. Using
INKING, fi nd where you can sketch. Sketch using a drawing pad on the computer or on
an iPad pro. Save your drawing afterwards and share it on Instagram.
How diffi cult or easy did you fi nd the task? (1-7 scale)
Scenario 2: You already have a design drafted. You’d like to fi nd an artist whose style you
like to book while you are on the bus to work. Using INKING, search for a quality artist in
your area and book. Then
upload your drawing and
share with artist your instagram link to
show him/her your draft.
How diffi cult or easy did you fi nd the task? (1-7 scale)
Scenario 3: You have picked a design from an artist, but you want to make some changes
to how the characters are placed next to the image, and make them bigger. Using
INKING, message the artist on your phone to get permission and collaborate.
How diffi cult or easy did you fi nd the task? (1-7 scale)
Wrap-up
Alright, this is the end of the session. Thank you for your help in answering those
questions. Before you go, do you have any questions for me?
