Multicultural
Having many different cultures.
Naturalization
The process of becoming an American citizen by living in
the country for fi ve years and then passing a test.
Ethnic Group
A group of people from the same country, of the same
race, or with a shared culture.
Civil Rights
The rights of citizens to equal treatment under the law.
Heritage
Traditions, beliefs, and ways of life that have been handed
down from the past.
Oath
A solemn promise.
Immigration
The process of people leaving one country to live in
another.
Sworn In
To make a formal promise to be honest of loyal.
Diverse
Differing from one another.
Citizen
A legally recognized subject or national of a state or
commonwealth.
Culture
The customs, arts, social institutions,and achievements of
a particular nation, people, or other social group.
Allegiance
Loyalty or commitment to a person, a group, or a cause.
Region
An area of the earth divided by physical characteristics or
divided by humans in some way.
Civil Rights act of 1964
A civil rights law that outlaws discrimination based on
race, color, religion, sex, and national origin.
Citizen
A person from a particular nation, state, or
commonwealth.
Voting Rights Act of 1965
A law that outlawed the discriminatory voting practices
adopted in many southern states in the U.S. after the
Civil War.
Institutions
An organization founded for a religious, educational,
social, or similar purpose.
American Indian Movement
An American Indian movement begun in 1968 to address
issues of poverty, discrimination, and police brutality
against American Indians.
Democratic
Something that is available to a broad group of people.
United Farm Workers
A labor union for farm workers in the U.S.
